The time has come around again for a reminder of our arrangements for
adverse weather. We always try to keep the school open if possible, but there
may be occasions when a decision is made to close. This would normally be because
staff cannot get into school on time because of difficult road conditions. I
am sure that you will understand that there are safety implications in opening the school without adequate teaching supervision
of pupils. It is important that you inform us of any change to contact numbers and addresses. Rural parents must supply an emergency accommodation address in Ellon for their children.
Whilst a decision to close
the school is never taken lightly, if this is the case parents will be informed via the Aberdeenshire Council School
Information Line, the Aberdeenshire Council Website and Local Radio. Details
of which can be found below.
Aberdeenshire Council Website
School Information Line
Dial 0870 054 4999
Enter Pin Number 02 16 60
You will hear the school's name - ensure this is correct
before going on.
You will now be taken to the main menu - Press
1 to hear your school's message.
The Emergency Information
Service is a school information line, which is used to inform parents of school closures.
Although the information line has been enhanced over the years it is not able to cope with parents and staff phoning
at the same time and if you leave your phone on redial, this only makes the line busier.
For this reason, it is helpful to use the website and radio too.
Local Radio
Radio stations are automatically told of a school closure when the school has entered the details on the website.
A list of schools that are closed or partially closed is broadcast to listeners as part of their ongoing news service.
School Transport
If the school is informed in the morning that transport will not be running, this will be conveyed to parents via
the Aberdeenshire Council website and telephone line and also local radio. If
you child uses school transport and this is cancelled do not take your child to school.
